Habitat
For Humanity House Build 2009
Our
Habitat for Humanity house is taking shape in a
subdivision that now resembles a neighborhood. The Ceja
house, which our congregation sponsors for that family, is
one of four structures on Samaritan Lane; two are complete
and awaiting families to move in, and two are under
construction. The Ceja house took a leap upward on June 20
with a ceremony to consecrate and bless the construction.
Prayers were offered and Rick Gaupo, the departing Habitat
affiliate executive director, thanked those present for
faithful partnership to build homes. About 60 people,
mostly members of this congregation, put muscle to work
and hoisted the walls vertically. The afternoon shift
installed the interior walls and nailed down the top
plates. With the exterior sheathing in place, and visible
door and window openings, the structure is now displaying
a substantial resemblance to a house. Roof trusses are the
next construction step, followed by sheathing and roofing
over the next few weeks.Construction schedules are notoriously hard to
forecast so check with the information kiosk at the
church. The information kiosk also has sign up
sheets for all our upcoming work days through August. Work
happens even on Saturdays we are not scheduled. Please
check your personal calendars, choose a four hour shift
that works in your schedule, and come help build the
house. You will find your time well spent!
